In recent months, Midjourney has established itself as the most powerful tool for creating AI images, leaving OpenAI’s competitors DALL-E and Stable Diffusion far behind.

Midjourney is an AI program that generates images from natural language descriptions called “prompts”. Users can create artwork with Midjourney using Discord bot commands.

New users mostly start prompting on the public channels of Midjourney. This means that all of the created images are visible to every other user. Moreover, navigating the public Midjourney channels quickly becomes confusing, sure to the sheer number of users in each channel.

One of the first steps you can take to increase your privacy is entering the Private/Stealth mode.

How does Midjourney’s Private/Stealth Mode work?

First, type /info in Discord and check your visibility mode. If visibility is set to public like in the image above, your images will be visible to anyone checking your Midjourney gallery.

Switching to private is easy. Simply enter /private into Discord. From now on, any images you create will be automatically unpublished from the Midjourney gallery.

However, this is only affecting the Midjourney gallery and not the public Discord channels like Newbie or General 1-20. All users navigating those channels can still see your images and in theory, could still copy your prompts.

Moreover, turning on the private mode will not make your existing images private. If you don’t want them to be public, you have to manually unpublish them.

Let’s see how this is done!

How to delete images from the Midjourney gallery?

Unfortunately – at the time of this writing – you can’t unpublish pictures only from the gallery. Instead, you have to permanently delete them.

In some situations, this may even be the desired action, for example in cases when you have accidentally created weird, gross, atrocious, or nude results.

For deleting those images, open them in Discord and add X as a reaction. You can add reactions by clicking on the Emoji in the upper right corner (add reaction) and choosing X.

If you can’t find this emoji, enter x into the search bar and it will show up as an emoji.

Now all you have to do is press Enter and the image will be deleted immediately.

Can I use Midjourney in a private Discord server?

So far, I have only shown you how to keep your Midjourney gallery more private. But people can still see your creations in the Discord channels. Moreover, any user who knows your Discord name could find all of your creations on Discord.

Fortunately, it is easy to create your private room in Discord and invite the Midjourney Bot into it.

How to add the Midjourney bot to your private discord server?

The first thing you have to do is create a new server in Discord. Once you have done that, you have to add the Midjourney bot.

Go to one of the public channels, click on Member List in the upper right corner, and select the Midjourney Bot from the user list that is appearing.

In the profile of the Midjourney bot, you will see the option “add to server”. Click on that button and select the server you want to connect it with.

Voila! You now have your private discord server where you can make your creations in total privacy
