Learn more about my latest Trading Journal Template for Notion:
In the last couple of years, I have invested in tons of different assets:
Bitcoin, Stocks, Currencies, and even Gold and Silver.
Some of my investments paid off, others didn’t do so well. However, my main problem before I discovered Notion was that I didn’t have a good overview of how my investments were performing.
This was because I tracked them all over the place: Some of them in apps, others inside of Google Sheets.
Basically, I had no idea how rich or poor I actually was. Just when I started using Notion for my personal life and business did it occur to me that I could use this app for tracking all of my financial investments inside of one dashboard.
As a result, the idea for the Finance Compass Template 1.0 was borne.
The Finance Compass was a good template for portfolio tracking. However, it wasn’t suited for day trading.
This was the reason why I totally revised the template in the summer of 2022.
I wanted to transform it into the best Notion template for day traders. And according to the feedback I have received so far, I did succeed with my mission.
In this post, I will give you a quick introduction to the Finance Compass Template 2.0.

Table
Let’s dive into the Finance Compass 2.0 (Trading Journal for Notion)
Trading Stats Database
The template greets you with your trading stats. In this database you can select different views to see your performance over different time periods:
- Annual
- Monthly
- Weekly
In each view you see the following stats:
- Number of trades in a given time period
- Win Rate
- Total Trading Profit/Loss in $
- Total Trading Profit/Loss in %
- Total Profit/Loss of the 4 asset classes
- Number of positions you are holding at the end of the month
- Profit/Loss in $ of assets you are still holding
- Profit/Loss in % of assets you are still holding
Portfolio Database
The next database shows your portfolio distribution. It outputs the absolute and relative value of each asset class and compares your holding positions with your optimal portfolio. This way you can always know if you need to rebalance your positions. at the end of a time period.
Asset Database
if you now scroll down, you will see a database called assets. Here you have a list of all the individual assets you have purchased. This database is of upmost importance, because you can only update the price information here.
PS: If you are familiar with automation, you could use tools like Zapier or Make to automatically update the prices of your assets.
Accounts Database
In this database, you can see your different trading accounts. It shows:
- Holding positions inside of each account
- The total value stored inside each account
Buying Database
Now we are coming to the core of this template.
When creating a new entry in the buying database, first relate it to the Trading Time (Year, Month, Week), in order to see the correct stats. In the next two properties, you connect your purchase with the asset and one of your trading accounts.
Now insert the buying price, fees, and shares. Optionally, you can also indicate a stop/loss price.
The database automatically calculates your initial risk, the purchase value, and the current value of your position.
Selling Database
If you want to sell your position, use the selling database (as the name suggests).
Important: If you want to see Trading Stats, you need to relate the selling position with your buying position.
Now, you proceed exactly like before when you were buying assets: Insert buying price, fees and shares. The database automatically calculates your trade profit or loss.
